Oxford’s Discounted Park & Ride Deal Extended to April 2024

In an effort to promote sustainable travel, Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council, Oxford Bus Company, and Stagecoach have agreed to extend the discounted combined parking and bus travel ticket at Oxford’s Park & Rides until April 2024.

Originally launched in October, the combined ticket has made commuting to the city centre both convenient and cost-effective. The ticket, priced at £4 for a car with a single adult and £5 for a car with two adults, allows parking for up to 16 hours. Additionally, up to three children under 16 can travel for free. This marks an improvement from the previous ticket arrangement, which only allowed for 11-hour parking, causing problems for those working longer shifts.

The offer results in a saving of 80p per individual ticket and £2.60 for two people travelling together, compared to the previous system where parking and bus travel were charged separately.

The City Council’s Cabinet approved the extension for a further six months, with Oxfordshire County Council having already agreed to maintain the current pricing for the rest of the 2023-24 financial year. Both councils plan to review the pricing of the combined ticket from April 2024 as part of their annual budget-setting process.

The combined ticket is available at all Park & Ride locations around Oxford, including Oxford Parkway, Pear Tree, Redbridge, Seacourt, and Thornhill. Tickets can be purchased through the RingGo parking app or at onsite ticket machines.

Councillor Louise Upton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Healthier Communities at Oxford City Council, said, “Park & Rides have been noticeably busier since we introduced the combined parking-and-bus tickets. Thousands of people have benefited from a more convenient and affordable way to arrive sustainably in Oxford.”

Councillor Andrew Gant, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highway Management, added, “This deal has proved to be extremely popular and we are delighted that it is being extended again. It will continue to make it cheaper and more convenient for many people to use the park and ride services instead of driving all the way into Oxford city centre.”

Luke Marion, Managing Director for Oxford Bus Company, praised the partnership, stating, “The combined parking and bus ticket has been a great example of partnership working between the councils and bus operators, and has helped our Park & Ride system in Oxford grow back much more quickly from the pandemic than similar schemes in other UK cities.”

Karen Coventry, Commercial and Marketing Director for Stagecoach West, also welcomed the extension: “Customers like simple to understand and good value ticket offers and the £4/£5 combined park and ride tickets being made available across all of the Park and Ride sites around the city have certainly helped to encourage more people onto the bus.”
